The History of Church on the Rock |

Bryan Garfield was a child when it was placed in his heart to ‘plant a church’. He explains, “I didn’t even know what that phrase meant at that young age.” He kept those words in his heart. In the late 90’s, he sensed the Lord telling him it was time. He visited several cities, but felt the Lord wanted him to be in the Chicagoland area. He contacted his college roommate, who lived in Streamwood. With prayer and hard work, Church on the Rock’s 1st service was held in a home on June 4, 2000.
Church on the Rock was ‘planted’. That began one of the most exciting journeys of seeing God at work on this earth. Miracle after miracle happened! Steel was donated to the church which fit the design of a multi-purpose building. Excavating equipment and cement were donated which added a basement to the design. Almost all the work is being completed by volunteers. That provided ministry opportunities and people came to Christ as they worked on the building! God provided so many miracles a book could be written!
November 8, 2009 was our first service, held in the foyer of our building! Everyone was so excited to be in our own building. Having our own building enabled new ministries to start and existing ministries are growing. Work continued on completing our sanctuary. Again, miracles helped us each step of the way. We celebrated our first Sunday service in the sanctuary on December 26, 2010. What a wonderful Christmas present!
We feel so blessed to have so much room for ministry. As we continue to grow, the basement is available for expansion. Our youth will have their own areas as the basement gets built out. Rooms for toddlers and two huge areas for ‘Kids on the Rock’ (K-5th grade) and Axis/Infiniti (Jr. and Sr. high) will be built.
Stop in some Sunday (service time - 10 am) and see all the activities and ministries happening here at church and in various neighborhood homes. We believe in community and would love to welcome you into our church family.
